The Bear Meal Plan and Cub Meal Plan

For undergraduate and graduate students, and UC Berkeley Extension International Concurrent Enrollment Students, living off campus or in university undergraduate apartments, meal plans provide valuable options for eating on campus. Use your Cal 1 Card to access a meal swipe for an “all-you-care-to-eat” meal at the residence dining commons, or use your Cal 1 Card to pay with flex dollars at campus convenience stores.

Cub and Bear plans may be purchased anytime throughout the year, starting in August 2018. When your meal swipes run out, purchase another set. Meal swipes and flex dollars expire if unused at the end of the academic year.

Cub Meal Plan: Costs $365

  • 25 meal swipes
  • $100 flex dollars
  • Use flex dollars for guest meals.
  • No daily minimum or maximum flex dollar usage.
  • All flex dollars carry over from fall semester to spring semester.
  • Use flex dollars at California Memorial Stadium and Haas Pavilion during football and basketball games respectively, as well as during other Cal Athletics events operated by Cal Dining.

Bear Meal Plan: Costs $700

  • 50 meal swipes
  • $200 flex dollars
  • Use flex dollars for guest meals.
  • No daily minimum or maximum flex dollar usage.
  • All flex dollars carry over from fall semester to spring semester.
  • Use flex dollars at California Memorial Stadium and Haas Pavilion during football and basketball games respectively, as well as during other Cal Athletics events operated by Cal Dining.

Customize your meal plan with add-on flex dollars. For both Bear and Cub plans, you can purchase add-on options to tailor your plan to your needs. Buy $50 flex dollars for $47.50, a 5% discount; or $100 flex dollars for $90, a 10% discount.

The total number of meals you will be able to purchase with each meal plan will depend on your eating habits and lifestyle. Students who will be eating in the dining commons may prefer to have a plan with more meal swipes than those who purchase grab-n-go items at a grocery outlet, for example. If you prefer to get your meals at the convenience stores, having more flex dollars may be useful for you. The price of meals at restaurants, cafes, and grocery outlets varies. Dining commons prices are set by the meal and are all-you-care-to-eat.
