General Terms and Conditions for Faculty and Staff Meal Plans
Cal 1 Card
Cal Dining uses the Cal 1 Card to manage meal plan utilization. The Cal 1 Card is encoded for the appropriate Meal Plan specified on the Cal 1 Card holder’s account. Faculty and staff must show a valid Cal 1 Card at every meal as meal plan access is by Cal 1 Card swipe only. Cal 1 Cards and privileges are non-transferable. In the absence of the Cal 1 Card, meals may be purchased with cash, credit, or debit at the general public price.
The Cal 1 Card is valuable and should be protected accordingly. You are solely responsible for immediately reporting / deactivating a lost or stolen Cal 1 Card. The most effective way to do so is online by logging onto your account (cal1card.berkeley.edu/login). If you do not have access to the internet when your card is lost or stolen, reports can be made in person at the Cal 1 Card Office or by calling 1.866.2UCBCARD. Once the card is reported missing, you assume no further liability for unauthorized use. A $25 non-refundable replacement fee will be assessed and can be paid online via credit card or at the 2610 Channing Way Cashiers Office on the 2nd floor. If your card was stolen and you filed a police report for that incident, the replacement fee will be waived with by presenting the corresponding police report when requesting the replacement card. Replacement cards are only issued to faculty and staff with a current employee or affiliate status in the campus HR system.
Meal swipes may only be used for breakfast, lunch, weekend/special service brunch, or dinner at the four residence hall dining commons : Crossroads, Café 3, Foothill, and Clark Kerr. If no meal swipes are available, available flex dollars will be used. Meal swipes are non-transferrable.
Flex dollars may be used to pay for guest meals in the dining commons. Flex dollars may also be are used at the following Cal Dining locations:
- Convenience Stores: The Den, Bear Market, Cub Market, and the CKCub;
- Campus Restaurants: Brown’s, Terrace Café, The Golden Bear Cafe, Common Grounds, and The Pro Shop;
- Selected Concession Stands: California Memorial Stadium, Haas Pavilion, as well as during other Cal Athletics events. Look for the “Flex Dollars Accepted Here” signs;
- Late Night à la carte service in the Crossroads and Foothill residence hall dining commons
Cal Dining makes every effort to identify ingredients that may trigger more well known allergic or other adverse reactions for individuals with food allergies or intolerance. Our staff is trained and educated on food allergies and gluten-free diets on an ongoing basis and they ensure that items marked gluten friendly are made without gluten-containing ingredients. However, due to the volume of meals served and items used each day along with food product changes from our vendors, we cannot guarantee that every allergen or gluten source in the food served will be identified and labeled. There is a small possibility that, without notice to us, manufacturers of the commercial foods we use can change the formulation at any time. Cross contact may also occur despite our best efforts to prevent it. Customers concerned with food allergens and gluten must be aware of these risks. Cal Dining cannot assume any liability for adverse reactions to food consumed, or items one may come in contact with while eating at any Cal Dining facility or catered event. Customers with life threatening food allergies who may need to use an EpiPen should be carrying their own at all times. Cal Dining staff is not trained to administer EpiPens and cannot provide or administer them.
Cal Dining strives to provide a variety of meal options, including vegetarian and vegan selections. Although not guaranteed, special diets can generally be accommodated within our regular offerings.
Meal plan holders are encouraged to meet with our registered dietitian to discuss any special dietary concerns or food allergies by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Holiday and Campus Closure Periods
Cal Dining locations close for holiday and planned and emergency campus closure periods; please review all important scheduled dates relating to Meal Plan service. Please note in the case of an emergency campus closure, advance notice may not be provided.
All current University of California, Berkeley faculty and staff with a valid Cal 1 Card are eligible to purchase a Faculty and Staff Meal Plan. An employee who is also a registered student of the University may only purchase a student Bear or Cub plan.
Period of Contract
All meal swipes included in the Faculty and Staff Meal Plan must be used by the end of the final summer session 2019 or separation from the university, whichever shall come first. The flex dollars included in the Faculty and Staff Meal Plan, as well as any purchased add-on flex dollars will remain on the faculty/staff user’s account as long as the participant is an employee of the University of California, Berkeley. All flex dollars and add-on flex dollars must be used by the last day of employment or funds will be forfeited.
Refunds, Transfers, Cancellations
There are no refunds, or transfers on the Faculty and Staff Meal Plan.
VISA, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted.
Rollover Meals/Points from the Faculty and Staff Meal Plans Purchased Prior to July 2018
Faculty and Staff Meal Plan holders with plans purchased prior to July 2018 will be able to continue to use any remaining points or meal swipes on their previous plan until there is a zero balance or the faculty or staff member separates from the university. Additional meal swipes or points cannot be purchased as the previous plans are no longer offered.
Beginning August, 2018, you may purchase the new Faculty and Staff fall 2018 meal plans that can be used starting on August 19, 2018.
