How many points should I have now?
Meal plan "points" are the currency with which residents use their meal plans. Points have no tie-in or relation to an actual dollar figure. These points cannot be refunded or cancelled, even if you move out of the residence halls.
Meal plan points are debited for each meal as follows:
| Meal Points |
Cost |
| Breakfast |
5.75 |
| Lunch/Brunch |
6.75 |
| Dinner |
7.75 |
Dining Facilities
Meal plan "points" can be used at Cal Dining's residence hall dining commons, retail dining locations, campus restaurants and weekly produce stands. Residence hall dining commons are Crossroads, Café 3, Foothill and Clark Kerr.
The dining commons offer buffet style service with unlimited portions. Crossroads, Foothill & Clark Kerr serves breakfast, lunch and dinner during weekdays and brunch and dinner on weekends. Café 3 offers weekday brunch and dinner. All locations offer late night dining options. The operating schedule for dining facilities will be provided at the beginning of the semester and are also available on the Cal Dining web site.

Meal Plan Options
We provide a choice of two meal plans for maximum flexibility and convenience. Please choose your meal plan carefully since meal changes can only be made from January 1 - 31, 2009.
Standard Plan:
This is the standard residence hall dining plan and gives customers 2500 points to use within the academic year [1250 per semester].
Premium Plan:
The premium meal plan offers a higher discount for more points, giving customers 3000 points to use within the academic year [1500 per semester] at $350 annually [$175 per semester]. This plan provides a more comprehensive option, covering more meals, snacks and groceries.
Meal plan points are debited for each meal as follows:
| Meal |
Dine-In |
To-Go |
| Breakfast |
5.75 |
5.50 |
| Lunch/Brunch |
6.75 |
6.50 |
| Dinner |
7.75 |
7.50 |
Additional points can be added at any time to both plans at 110% value [for example, $50 would purchase 55 additional points.]
Each semester, 50% of the points are credited to your account. Should the student not use all the fall points, up to 100 unused points will carry over from the fall to the spring. Points will not carry over from academic year to academic year, therefore all points not used by the last day of the spring semester will be forfeited. Students use the points in any residence hall dining commons, campus restaurants or weekly produce stand.
FOR ALL CONTRACTS SIGNED AND RETURNED WITHOUT A DINING PLAN INDICATED, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE THE Standard Plan. Your residence hall housing contract includes room and board and if you cancel your housing contract, there is NO REFUND or CREDIT for unused meal plan points. Overusage of your meal plan points upon cancellation may result in additional charges to your CARS account.
